A chart consists of a query (which data?) and a display (how is it drawn?). You set up both in the chart editor.
New chart: Three-dot menu at the top right of the dashboard → Diagramm hinzufügen
Existing chart: Hover over the chart, click the three dots in the corner → Bearbeiten
Only the owners of the dashboard can edit.
Under Explore you choose which data area the fields come from. Then give the chart a title. It appears above the chart.
Field | What you set |
|---|---|
Fields | Dimensions (e.g. branch, date) and measures (e.g. net revenue) |
Filters | One filter expression per field, e.g. |
Sorting | Field and direction, |
Row limit | How many rows the chart loads at most (default 100, maximum 1000) |
Two empty rows are ready for filters and sorting. If you need more, save the chart once, then new rows are added.
The filters here apply only to this one chart. Filters that viewers should change themselves are set up in the dashboard's filter bar (see "Einstellungen, Filter und Teilen").
Chart type | Good for |
|---|---|
| One dimension and one or more measures as vertical columns, e.g. revenue per weekday |
| The same as horizontal bars, good for long names like items |
| Any fields as columns, with bars or a color scale per field if you want |
| One to three measures as a big number, e.g. revenue yesterday |
| Up to ten big numbers side by side, also with a comparison to the previous value |
| Free-form charts based on your own Vega-Lite specification, e.g. line charts |
| A Markdown text without data, e.g. a heading for a section or a note |
Depending on the chart type, there are more options, e.g. for colors, labels, number format or conditional formatting. Options for a newly added field appear after you have saved the chart once.
If fields and chart type don't fit together, the editor tells you what is missing. A column chart needs exactly one dimension, for example.
There is no classic line chart as its own chart type. For that you use
Vega-Lite-Diagramm. The easiest way: ask Smarta to build the line chart for you.
The dashboard is 24 columns wide.
Width: from 1 to 24 columns. 12 columns are half a page (default).
Height: Klein, Mittel (default), Groß or Dynamisch. Dynamic grows with the content and works for bar charts, tables and texts.
With Vorschau anzeigen the chart loads once with the dashboard's default values. That way you check the result before you save. The preview counts toward your token limit. Speichern takes you back to the dashboard.
Open the chart with Bearbeiten and click Diagramm löschen at the very bottom. The chart also disappears for all groups the dashboard is shared with.
My chart shows "Dieses Diagramm passt nicht mehr zum Explore".
A field the chart uses no longer exists. Click Diagramm bearbeiten and pick a matching field again.
The chart shows only part of the data.
Then the row limit applies. Raise it in the editor or narrow the data with filters.
Can I click on a chart to filter?
Yes. A click on a bar or a column filters the other charts to that value. With Crossfilter zurücksetzen you undo that again.
